Issue: NOD32 fails to update virus database in Windows XP...
During Update, you may get the error :Virus signature database could not be updated
General compiler error
Try this solution, delete the contents of the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\Updfiles
(you may keep a backup copy in case).
Now, NOD32 will update fresh, it may take a while but will work in most cases.
